Do You Care?

Hi,

It's Roberto.

When you start a business and grow it to the point of hiring other people you’ll discover something that most people will never will.

You see in real time how completely incompetent some people are.

I have stories for days about this topic and so does every other business owner.

Was out with a friend yesterday, we were talking about a pretty decent sized event (50+) he is organizing. He asked a staff member to handle the booking of the venue. 

Asked first thing on Monday and followed up on Friday to see if everything is booked..

Answer: "No, because I emailed the venue but didn't get an answer yet. So... yeah..."

Let me do some mindreading for a second. I will beam my consciousness across time and space and try to get a sense of your response.

Was it something along the lines of:

"THEN WHY THE HELL DIDN'T YOU JUST PICK UP THE PHONE AND GAVE THEM A CALL!!!!"

Because that was my response. And my friend's response.

I’ve been wondering why this happens for some time and came to the conclusion that they simply don’t care.

If it was life or death, the venue would be booked. If it was their wedding, the venue would be booked. If it was a kafana meetup and the friend group asked them to book? You guessed it! It would be booked.

But it's none of those. It's: 'just work'.

I'm happy (and proud) to tell you that this doesn't happen if my team and I work with clients. Not because I'm an incredible people manager and a once-in-a-lifetime trainer.

Because of two simple reasons:

1) I have a great team with ambitious people.

2) We have standards and we call each other out when we don't meet them.

So if you start running into this sort of stuff it pays to direct their attention to the standards you put on yourself, your work, and the organisation as a whole.

Instill pride. It fuels civilizations.
